Voter Advocacy
In the past two Legislative Sessions (2010 and 2011) the majority of legislators voted to “balance” Arizona’s budget by cutting funding and programs in education, health care (AHCCCS), mental health and other human services (i.e., respite, child care, TANF, service provider fees). These cuts affect many Arizonans with disabilities.
It is our responsibility to let our elected legislators and the Governor know how these program cuts affect our lives and to let them know we are voters.
What you can do
- Register and vote! It is MOST important that every adult member of the disability community register and vote. There will be important Propositions on the November 2011 ballot. All state legislators will be up for re-election in the November 2012 election!
- Support your favorite candidates. Participate on candidate election campaigns so you get to know them and they get to know you.
- Participate in community candidate forums to bring up your concerns and ask candidates how they will support disability services and other issues of importance to you.
- Actively got others registered to vote and remind them to vote.
